Reflection 2

Reflection 2

After the first reflection I learned how to write an essay about a problem and the solutions and also I learned how to make inline citations professionally and the references . Also my writing is better. This course was easy and simple, not like what I was thinking about. I think the course is very useful because we learned how to do research.

Global Warming

Introduction

Global warming is an increase in the average temperature of oceans and air near the Earth’s surface. This type of situation arises when the greenhouse gases such as methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide trap light and heat from sun in the atmosphere of the earth. The increase in the temperature of the earth’s surface has been observed from the middle of the 20th century. These gases are the result of the human activities like burning of fossil fuels, deforestation etc. Depletion in the ozone layer occurs due to the global warming. The number of skin diseases increases due to the ozone layer depletion.
Causes of climate changing

The main cause of climate change is the greenhouse effect. A layer of greenhouse gas is created around the earth’s surface which allows sunlight to enter but blocks the heat from escaping and this results in rise a in the temperature of the earth. Another cause is deforestation. Plants have the ability to store carbon dioxide but due to deforestation carbon dioxide levels increase. When plants decay it releases carbon back into the atmosphere. Methane, a hydrocarbon gas, is one of the reasons of climate change. This gas is produced from both human activity like rice cultivation, agriculture etc, and natural sources like volcanic eruptions. Nitrous oxide is a powerful greenhouse gas which is released from the use of organic and commercial fertilizers, biomass burning, metric acid production and fossil fuel combustion. The presence of chlorofluorocarbons is very small in the atmosphere but its contribution is very large in the depletion of the ozone layer. (causes of climate changes)
Consequences of climate changing

Scientists of the IPCC estimate that the temperature of the earth’s surface increased by 0.6° Celsius during the last 100 years. This may not sound very dangerous but one degree rise will definitely affect the earth. The sea level rose by 15 cm during the 20th century due to the melting of glacier ice. It is estimated that during the 21th century it may rise up to 59 cm and that affects coastal communities. The summer thickness of Arctic ice gets reduced to half of what it was in the year 1950. Intense rainfall occurs in some areas and results in the situation of flooding. The number of hurricanes has increased since 1970 in the Atlantic areas. Another consequence is the extreme drought. The rate of evaporation has increased due to the high temperature which results in the extreme drought in some parts of the world. (consequences)
Solution for the climate changing

The first solution to this problem is more use of renewable resources like wind, biofuels , solar energy , waves etc, instead of fossil fuels. These energy sources do not eliminate carbon dioxide in the environment. Governments have to make several policies in order to reduce the use of coal, gasoline, carbon producing products etc. Government should use natural gas for generating electricity instead of coal. It is not the responsibility of governments only but human should also contribute. People should use public transport for long distances. Grow more trees in your locality. Compact fluorescent is another option for the incandescent light. (solution for climate changes)
Conclusion

The climatic condition is changing drastically due to global warming. The cases of skin diseases, asthmatic problem, and skin allergies are increasing day by day. The numbers of human deaths are increasing. Various awareness programs should be organized by government so that common people can receive the information about the environmental problems easily.

Communication

Introduction

A lot of people cannot do their work without using technology. For some of them the technology is part of their life and work. Always the humans try to make their lives easier so they invent many important inventions. Many companies develop and grow by using the technology; also almost all of the colleges and universities in the UAE are using new methods of teaching by using the technology. Nowadays people can't finish their work without using computers; also it should be connected to the internet. In this essay I will write about the history of communication and how it developed over time and how they are using it nowadays.

Communication History

Communication is to transfer information from one person to another. First humans tried to communicate with each other by drawing some pictures to tell what happened. After that they found a way to communicate from long distance using the smoke and it was used by the native Americans(smoke signals) Then the telegraph was invented by Jnnocenzo Manzetti( Timeline of Telecommunications). After that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone which was used to transmit speech electrically (Timeline of the telephone).Cable connected telephones. The next generation of the telephone is the portable telephone which is called the mobile phone. It allows you to communicate without cables which is wireless.

Communication today

Nowadays nobody can live without using the new communication system of the mobile phone. The phone call quality has seen a lot of development. Also the mobile phone has seen a lot of progress. We have to use the mobile phone in our daily life. Now people can make video calls so they can see each other. In these days the communication also can be by the e-mail and internet which is much faster and easier and it's almost free . With all of this new technology all learning took new methods. Now the education is more attractive and easy. We can use the internet to research instead of going to the libraries to read all of those boring books. Also you can take courses by studying material that is sent from the college. Today we can use the 4G communication system which combines 3G and 2G, setting peak speed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication (such as from trains and cars) and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication such as pedestrians and stationary users. (4G)

In these days technology plays a big role in many things like quality and safety and it has made our life easier and more comfortable. Like in HCT they put the attendance in the system so they reduce the mistakes which are caused by putting attendance manually. Also, in cars they use car computers so we can identify any problem in our car. Banks use technology; they put all the information about their customers in their system so all the information about money will be in the account of the customer on the system. In this part I will talk about how the communication became nowadays and what they will be in the future.
Communication devices like mobile phones have became easier and more professional than before. Now people can hear their voices through the phone clearly. It is more professional than it was in 1970. People now can do many things with their mobile phone like Black Berry. The BlackBerry possesses a general contacts application that makes contacting people by any given method more convenient (Mark Hendrickson, www. techcrunch.com).With Black Berry people can send and receive e mail .

Conclusion

Technology is important for us in many things like education and communication. Technology helps our world and our people. So, we can't stop using technology. Telephones are one of these technologies which are great communication devices.

Reflection

This course was easy and simple, not like what I was thinking about. I think the course is very useful because we learned how to do research about a topic in any magazine. Also I learned what is the difference between bibliography and citation. The citation is a little information about who writes the article and the bibliography is full information about the article.

First I did research about internet addiction and how to make a citation from easybib.com. After that I did research about the similarities and differences between the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 911 turbo; then I wrote a research about Communication.

Bugatti Veyron and Porsche 911 turbo

The Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 911 turbo are two of the most popular supercars in the world. The Bugatti Veyron has more technical features than the Porsche 911 turbo but the Porsche 911 turbo has the advantage of other features. In this essay I will discuss the similarities and the differences and some of the special features.

There are a few similarities between those two vehicles. First of all both are German. Second the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 911 turbo are two door car which means they are small shape. Next, they are 4wheel drive. (Bugatti Veyron)

There are too many differences between these two cars. First the Bugatti Veyron has 1001 horsepower but the Porsche 911 turbo engine has 500 horsepower. Which means the Buggatti Veyron can go up to 431 km/h; on the other hand the Porsche 911 turbo can go only up to 312 km/h. Also the Bugatti Veyron goes from 0-120km/h in 2.5sec, but the Porsche 911 turbo needs 3.5sec to get to 120km/h. (http://www.porsche.com)

Also the Bugatti Veyron costs much more than the Porsche 911 turbo. The Bugatti Veyron can cost 2.1 million dollars but the Porsche 911 turbo cost only $ 135,500.00. Last but not least the Porsche 911 turbo has only 6 cylinders but the Bugatti Veyron has 10 more cylinders than the Porsche 911 turbo. Finally the Bugatti Veyron weighs 1888kg but the Porsche 911 turbo weighs 1570km. (http://www.bugatti.com)

In summary, there are huge differences between these two cars. In my opinion the Porsche is a better buy, because it's cheaper and you can easily find spare parts and its more suitable to use daily. I don’t think that the Bugatti is for daily use because it has 16 cylinders, which means its consumes more fuel but the Porsche is only 6 cylinders that means it consumes less fuel.

Internet addiction

Internet addiction

Ben Alexander had internet addiction. He faced many social problems. He found it difficult to fit into his school. He found an online game called "world of war craft". He joined 12 million other people in the game. So he started skipping his class so he could play in the game, spending up to 17 hours a day online. So he became depressed and tried medication. He admits that he needed help.
Habit or Addiction. The medical world divided people into two groups. The first is the actual internet addict and the second those who have the habit. There are side effects like missing school work and developing addiction to drugs and problems in eating habits .
The British Medical Journal says that of more than 45 million web users in Britain 5 to 10 per cent may be addicts. Smallwood says that 10 years ago he'd never met anyone with internet addiction. But in the past 5 years he has met several.
